MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. Paris’ statements on possible security guarantees to Ukraine threaten France’s security as this is a step toward escalating the crisis, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Wednesday.
French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna said earlier that the topic of France granting security guarantees to Ukraine is being discussed.
"This (granting security guarantees to Ukraine - TASS) is a step toward escalating the crisis and raising the stakes in the hybrid war against Russia, which has been unleashed by the West. This is absolutely evident. I am sure that the French should understand that this entails growing risks to France’s security," he said in an interview with Russia’s TV Channel One.
According to Grushko, it is not clear what kind of guarantees to Kiev Paris means. "Much has been said about Israel’s guarantees, which are materialized first of all in weapons supplies, but this is what France is already doing," the diplomat noted, adding that France’s supplies, although not excessively large, include "rather advanced and powerful weapons.".
