Netherlands seeking to limit work of Russia’s mission to OPCW — diplomat

It is stressed that the Dutch government is blatantly violating its obligations under article 8 of the Chemical Weapons Convention

THE HAGUE, November 28. /TASS/. The Netherlands is seeking to limit the work of the Russian mission to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Russian Permanent Representative to that organization said on Monday at the 27th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

"The expulsion of Russian diplomats and hampering the timely arrival of experts to take part in the meetings of the OPCW steering bodies indicate that the Dutch government is blatantly violating its obligations under article 8 of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the headquarters agreement," he stressed.

In this context, the Russian diplomat called on the OPCW to "pay close attention to this problem." He also called on the Dutch government to "refrain from abusing its right to host an international organization vested in it by member states."

In March, the Netherlands expelled 17 people accredited as diplomats at Russian missions. According to the Russian foreign ministry, there were employees of the Russian mission to the OPCW among them.
