Putin congratulates Yoon Seok-youl on winning South Korean presidential election

The opposition People Power Party’s candidate Yoon Seok-youl garnered 48.56% of the vote, while the ruling party’s candidate Lee Jae-myung received 47.83%

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message to Yoon Seok-youl, congratulating him on winning South Korea’s presidential election.

"Please accept my warmest congratulations on your election as president. I expect that your activities as head of state will contribute to boosting bilateral relations for the benefit of our peoples, in the interest of strengthening security and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Southeast Asia in general," says the message published on the Kremlin website.

Putin pointed out that Russia and South Korea had significant experience cooperating in various fields, particularly in resolving pressing global issues.

South Korea held its presidential election on Wednesday. The opposition People Power Party’s candidate Yoon Seok-youl garnered 48.56% of the vote, while the ruling party’s candidate Lee Jae-myung received 47.83%.
