Russian citizens from Donbass arrive in Rostov Region to vote in legislative elections

According to a source, two polling stations had been set up in the city of Novoshakhtinsk

NOVOSHAKHTINSK /Rostov Region/, September 17. /TASS/. The first voters from the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) have arrived at polling stations in Russia’s Rostov Region thanks to bus services organized by the republic’s authorities for Russian citizens residing in Donbass, a TASS correspondent reported from a polling station.

A source in the Novoshakhtinsk administration informed TASS that two polling stations had been set up in the city for Russian citizens from Donbass. In all, almost 50 polling stations for Donbass residents have been organized in the Rostov Region. They are located in border towns and districts.

On July 20, Russia’s Central Election Commission adopted a resolution, according to which those residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics who were granted Russian citizenship, would be able to vote in the State Duma elections online. On September 7, local DPR-and LPR-based news agencies reported that the testing of a remote electronic voting system for the upcoming elections had begun.

Elections to the 8th Russian State Duma (lower house) are scheduled for September 19, 2021, known as Single Voting Day. The balloting process will span across three days - September 17, 18, and 19. In addition to the State Duma elections, voters will go to the polls to cast ballots for the heads of nine Russian regions (in another three regions local legislatures will elect top executive officials) and in elections for 39 regional parliaments.
