MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. US attempts to portray Russia as an enemy in order to justify its own military buildup negatively affect the security situation in Europe and worldwide, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"More and more often, the strategy of fuelling anti-Russian campaign within the INF treaty context is being systematically used by Washington as a blueprint for legitimizing its rapid military buildup in the eyes of the public by baselessly accusing Russia of aggressive behavior and pointing at the growing need to ‘take retaliatory measures,’" the ministry said, commenting on the US Department of State’s Report on Adherence to and Compliance With Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and Disarmament Agreements and Commitments.

At the same time, Washington "portrays Russia as an enemy to its allies, with an aim to boost defense spending and militarization," the ministry said.

"Such policies have a direct negative impact on the security situation in Europe and worldwide," it added.

"No clear evidence to support accusations against us has ever been presented," the ministry said.
