One killed, dozens injured as building collapses in Bangkok following powerful quake

BANGKOK, March 28. /TASS/. At least 50 people were injured after a building collapsed in Bangkok, killing one, in the wake of a powerful earthquake that rocked the Thai capital on Friday, CNN reported.

Bangkok police told the Associated Press that they have no immediate information on how many people may remain under the debris from the fallen building.

Central Myanmar was hit by a massive quake of 7.7 to 7.9 magnitude, followed by a strong 6.4-magnitude aftershock. Tremors were also felt in China, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The historic Mandalay Palace, located in the eponymous city in Myanmar, was partially damaged by the earthquake, and a colonial-era bridge over the Irrawaddy River collapsed.

The Thai prime minister declared an emergency in the capital. There may be up to 2,000 Russian tourists in Bangkok, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) said, citing preliminary data.
