Emergency regime declared in Nevelsky District of Sakhalin where vessel runs aground

The ministry notes that there is currently no fuel spill

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, February 9. /TASS/. An emergency situation regime was declared in Nevelsky District of the Sakhalin Region in Russia’s Far East after a foreign vessel ran aground near the island, the regional Emergencies Ministry reported on Telegram.

"A municipal level emergency situation regime has been declared in Nevelsky District," the report says. It added that the ministry’s crisis management center had previously received information about a foreign vessel that had run aground at the mouth of the Kazachka River in Nevelsk.

The ministry notes that there is currently no fuel spill. Constant monitoring of the coastline has been launched. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is deploying 16 people and 7 pieces of equipment.

"Our main task is continuous monitoring of the coastline for the presence of oil products. We will do this every few hours. People will go to the coastline and conduct observations," head of the Nevelsky District, Alexey Shabelnik said in a video published on his Telegram channel.

The Telegram channel of the Ministry of Digital and Technological Development of the Sakhalin Region reports that, on the instructions of the region's governor, Valery Limarenko, the situation near the stranded vessel has been monitored using the Brazhnik unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone made it possible to quickly collect up-to-date data on the condition of the vessel and the adjacent territory. All the information received was sent to the operational headquarters for further analysis and decision-making.

The An Yang 2 bulk carrier ran aground due to a severe storm. There are 20 crew members on board. They are Chinese citizens. They are provided with food and water and do not need medical assistance. As reported by the regional government press service, the vessel is loaded with coal, fuel oil and motor oil, no fuel spill was detected.
