Over 400,000 people affected by earthquake in Syria — government

1,553 people were rescued from the rubble of collapsed buildings, 6 were missing, according to the Syrian Committee for Emergency Situations

BEIRUT, March 3. /TASS/. As many as 414,304 people were affected by the February 6 devastating earthquake in Syria, the SANA news agency reported on Thursday, citing the government’s emergencies committee.

"As many as 91,800 families were affected by the quake. A total of 4,444 buildings were destroyed totally or partially," it said, adding that 1,553 people were rescued from under the rubble and six are still missing.

Syria’s health ministry said earlier that the death toll from the earthquake was at least 1,414 and 2,349 were injured. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the earthquake claimed 4,537 lives on territories near the border with Turkey that are not controlled by the Syrian government.
