No people remaining under avalanche in Russia’s North Caucasus, preliminary data suggests

MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. There are no people remaining under the snow after an avalanche cascaded down Mount Mussa-Achitara in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, in the North Caucasus, a source in the emergency services informed TASS on Tuesday, citing preliminary data.

"Preliminary data suggests that the whereabouts of all people have been detected, there have been no reports of missing persons, which means that there are no more people injured under the avalanche," the source informed, adding that the rescue works will continue until it becomes clear that there is nobody else under the avalanche.

According to the Emergencies Ministry, an avalanche hit a piste in the settlement of Dombay on Mount Mussa-Achitara on Monday. Two trailers where the ski gear is rented were under the snow, and a cafe was damaged.

The president of the Dombay Alpine Skiing and Snowboard Federation, Khadzhi-Murat Marshankulov, was killed in the avalanche, his son told TASS. A pre-investigation probe has been launched.
