BEIJING, December 24. /TASS/. The significance of BRICS as a platform for fostering unity and cooperation among global South countries has risen, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning stated on Tuesday.
"BRICS' representation has expanded further, its appeal and influence have grown significantly, and the organization is increasingly becoming a critical platform for promoting collaboration and unity among countries of the global South," the Chinese spokeswoman remarked while commenting on Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov’s statement about the successful integration of new BRICS members.
The consensus on granting Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan the status of partner countries "marks a new milestone in cooperation among BRICS member states," the spokeswoman added.
The diplomat further emphasized that China remains committed to strengthening cooperation with BRICS member states and partner countries.
Earlier, Ushakov noted that Russia hosted 250 events as part of its BRICS presidency. The agenda included discussions on both long-established areas of interaction and new areas of cooperation. According to Ushakov, the unique aspect of Russia's presidency was Moscow’s effort to ensure the smooth integration of new BRICS members into existing structures and modes of interaction.
