Bank of Russia postpones release of upgraded notes

New banknotes will not appear immediately in the turnover and the time for equipment adaptation will be needed, the press service informed

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. The Bank of Russia has postponed the release of upgraded 10, 50, and 500 ruble banknotes until 2028 in view of the changed approach to their development, the regulator’s press service told TASS.

"Since we have changed the approach to development of banknotes and made the procedure of choosing symbols more open, the time for release of upgraded banknotes of remaining denominations (10, 50, and 500 rubles) to circulation is shifted. We plan to issue them by 2028," the Central Bank said.

New banknotes will not appear immediately in the turnover and the time for equipment adaptation will be needed, the press service informed. Such work goes in parallel to equipment configuring for already released 100-ruble and 5,000-ruble notes, it added.
