Four LNG tankers stranded at sea amid Houthi escalation

The media reported earlier that QatarEnergy had suspended LNG deliveries via the Red Sea

DUBAI, January 15. /TASS/. At least four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers have suspended their voyages along routes via the Red Sea after the US and the UK attacked Houthi facilities in Yemen.

According to data from the Marine Traffic service, the Al Ghariya, the Al Huwaila, and the Al Nuaman carriers loaded at the LNG terminal in Qatar’s Ras Laffan on January 9 and 11 and due to depart to the Suez Canal have been stranded near the Omani coast since January 14. Furthermore, the Al Rekayyat carrier stopped on January 13 in the northern part of the Red Sea on her way to Doha after unloading at the Adriatic LNG Terminal in Italy. According to a TASS source at the Dubai Multi Commodities Center, all four LNG carriers were chartered by QatarEnergy.

Reuters reported earlier, citing sources, that QatarEnergy had suspended LNG deliveries via the Red Sea. The company, as Reuters’ sources said, will redirect its cargoes via the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa if passing through the Red Sea remains unsafe.
