MINSK, January 9. /TASS/. Belarus has set a new record for electricity consumption as citizens continue to struggle with cold weather, the press service of the country’s Energy Ministry said on its Telegram channel.
"Electricity consumption peaked in the country on January 8 amid severe frosts, reaching a record high figure of 6,595 MW, which is 204 MW higher than the previous maximum registered on December 8, 2023," the ministry said.
This year's overnight January temperatures were the coldest over the last three years, falling as low as minus 29 degrees Celsius in the country’s northern areas, the press service added.
