Cuba to bring Russian business into its investment projects — speaker

It is stressed that the "key aspect" for Cuba is to strengthen economic, trade and financial cooperation with Russia and bring it to a level characteristic of the political ties between the two countries

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Havana intends to pursue the proactive and efficient participation of Russian companies in investment projects in Cuba and urges Russian regions to work together, President of the National Assembly of People's Power [the Cuban parliament - TASS] Esteban Lazo Hernandez said at a plenary session of the Russian Council of Federation [the upper house of the Russian parliament - TASS].

"We consider it extremely important to achieve the proactive and efficient participation of Russian companies in investment projects in Cuba, considering the vast opportunities provided by Law No. 118 on foreign investments and special conditions in the Mariel port special development zone," the lawmaker said.

The head of the Cuban parliament called upon Russian regions to participate in the implementation of Cuba’s 2030 national socioeconomic development plan. "The favorable experience of [joint] projects in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Nizhniy Novgorod and St. Petersburg has already been seen, and this should be resumed. They have become important examples for the future," Hernandez said.

The "key aspect" for Cuba is to strengthen economic, trade and financial cooperation with Russia and bring it to a level characteristic of the political ties between the two countries, he noted. "It is critical to give an impetus to important processes in the financial, energy and agro-industrial sphere," Hernandez said.
