Quotas on export of mineral fertilizers to be extended by May 2023, says Russian Deputy PM

According to press service of Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, the Russian government’s commission supported the decision

MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. The Russian government’s commission on issues of agriculture complex and sustainable development of rural areas supported the extension of quotas on exports of mineral fertilizers in effect until the end of 2022 by May 31, 2023, the press service of Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said in a statement on Monday.

"To declare the Russian government’s measures on curbing the growth of prices for mineral fertilizers efficient. To support the extension of measures on curbing the growth of prices for mineral fertilizers approved earlier by May 31, 2023," the statement said.

The issue is first of all about measures of customs tariff regulation, particularly quotas and restricted exports of fertilizers, as well as mechanisms of agreements on supply of fertilizers inside the country, a representative of Abramchenko’s office explained to TASS.

On May 31, the Russian government approved the extension of quotas on export of nitrogen and compound fertilizers from July 1 to December 31, 2022. Initially quotas were introduced from December 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Consequently, export quotas will not be in force in June. Starting July until the end of the year quotas will total slightly over 8.3 mln tonnes for nitrogen fertilizers and slightly more than 5.9 mln tonnes for compound fertilizers. A source in the agriculture complex told TASS that the pause on quotas on exports of fertilizers is related to the lack of demand for them in Russia in June.

Moreover, producers of mineral fertilizers took a decision last July to curb prices for their products for farmers until the end of 2021. Later the plans were announced to extend the mechanism of fixed prices until the end of May 2022.
