KRASNOYARSK, March 3. /TASS/. The crisis in the Russian economy amid the situation around Ukraine and new western sanctions may last around three years, Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska believes.
"A crisis at least for three years. The toughest one - multiply the crisis of 1998 by three," he said at a plenary session of the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum on Thursday. That said, Deripaska is convinced that the country will find a way out, particularly considering the experience it has.
He also stressed the necessity to support the population of the country, which "is not guilty of anything."
Russia is facing a wave of international sanctions over the start of its military operation in Ukraine. In particular, the US and the EU slapped sanctions on Russia’s banking system, including cutting off a number of banks, including VTB, Otkritie and Promsvyazbank, from SWIFT. Additionally, sanctions concerned the state debt and operations of the Bank of Russia.
