HAIKOU, February 8. /TASS/. Haikou city, the administrative center of Hainan province, received more than 1.4 million tourists during the week of the Lunar New Year holidays, the Hainan Daily newspaper reported.
According to the article, the income of the tourism industry in the city reached 1.7 billion yuan. The newspaper noted that the share of domestic tourists from other cities was about 71.34%.
As the article pointed out, due to the cold weather and rains, residents and visitors to the city preferred to spend less time outdoors. They visited exhibitions, art galleries, theaters and cinemas, concerts and sports events.
During the Chinese New Year holidays, which lasted from January 31 to February 6, Hainan received many tourists from all over China. During that week, Phoenix Airport in the resort city of Sanya handled 447,000 passengers, an increase of 32.4% over last year's figure.
