Hainan intends to increase the number of foreign students to 10,000 by 2025

During the thirteenth five-year plan (2016-2020), Hainan received about 352 million Chinese and foreign tourists

The Hainan provincial government plans to increase the number of foreign students studying in the province to 10,000, according to the government's official fourteenth five-year plan to modernize the education system for 2021-2025.

Hainan plans to begin construction of about 15 international schools and kindergartens, as well as open at least three branches of foreign universities, colleges and schools that will train specialists in the natural and technical sciences, agriculture, medicine and other fields. In addition, the government intends to create and promote the "Studying on Hainan" brand.

In order to achieve these goals, the authorities plan to establish international educational clusters in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, Yazhouwan Academic City in Sanya, Jiangdong District International Education Center in Haikou, Lecheng Medical Tourism Pilot Zone in Boao and Yangpu Economic Development Zone.

According to the document, during the thirteenth five-year plan, the Hainan provincial authorities signed more than 110 various agreements, and also began to implement a total of over 400 educational projects with a total investment worth about 30 billion yuan (about $ 4.65 billion).

By 2025, the authorities intend to turn Hainan into an "international center for tourism and consumption." The Chinese island is often referred to as "Eastern Hawaii" — natural landscapes, tropical forests, a developed hotel chain, combined with beaches and a coastline stretching along more than 1,900 kilometers, attract guests from the most remote parts of the world.
