Russian government coped with crisis in 2020, says Accounts Chamber

The 2020 economic crisis can be comparable or can be even above the Great Depression by its scale, head of the Accounts Chamber Alexei Kudrin said

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. The Russian government has generally managed to cope with the crisis induced by the coronavirus pandemic, head of the Accounts Chamber Alexei Kudrin said at the Gaidar Forum.

"Generally, I believe the government, let me say so, copes with what was required during such crisis to the minimum essential extent," Kudrin noted. Challenges for the national economy are now much stronger than during the 2009 crisis, he added.

The 2020 economic crisis can be comparable or can be even above the Great Depression by its scale, Kudrin noted. "The decline across the globe is generally unprecedented, unique. It is much higher or can be comparable with the Great Depression," the official said.

The decline of the Russian GDP turned out to be smaller than forecasted owing to the government’s activities, Kudrin added.
