Turkish army hits over 100 Kurdistan Workers’ Party targets in Iraq, Syria

Yasar Guler vowed that the fight against the PKK would continue "until the last terrorist is eliminated"

ISTANBUL, January 16 ./TASS/. The Turkish army has wiped out over 100 targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK, outlawed by Ankara as terrorist) over the past five days in operations carried out in northern Iraq and Syria, Defense Minister Yasar Guler said in parliament.

"As a result of air operations carried out in northern Iraq and Syria in coordination with the National Intelligence Organization, 114 targets of the terrorist organization as well as 78 terrorists have been destroyed in the past five days," the defense minister said. His speech in parliament was broadcast by the TRT Haber TV channel.

The defense minister vowed that the fight against the PKK would continue "until the last terrorist is eliminated."

Operations in Iraq and Syria began after PKK militants attacked a Turkish military outpost in northern Iraq on January 12, killing nine soldiers.

Turkish authorities call the PKK a major threat to national security. The republic's army continuously conducts operations against Kurdish militants in northern Iraq and Syria and keeps a large contingent of troops deployed in the region.
