MINSK, April 4. /TASS/. The security services of Belarus and Russia believe that they share a heightened responsibility to ensure that the West’s hostile plans are exposed in a timely manner and that the defense potential of both countries is bolstered, the Republic of Belarus’ Committee for State Security (KGB) said following a joint meeting of the boards of the Belarusian KGB and Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).
"Talks were held between the chairman of Belarus’ KGB and the director of Russia’s SVR. The sides arrived at the consensus view that the true reason behind the West’s unprecedented pressure on the Union between Belarus and Russia is not the Ukrainian crisis, but rather the United States’ aspiration for unfettered global hegemony. Under these circumstances, a heightened responsibility rests on the Belarusian and Russian security services for the timely exposure of the West’s hostile plans and the strengthening of both countries’ defense, industrial and technological potential," the committee’s statement noted.
According to the KGB, at the meeting, the results of bilateral interaction in various areas of intelligence activity were reviewed and the objectives and priorities of joint operations under the conditions of the collective West’s aggressive policy were discussed. The meeting’s participants stressed that the agencies’ interaction is marked by a "trust-based and mutually beneficial nature and is a key integral and promising component of a set of measures for defending the interests of the Union State."
The intelligence chiefs agreed on developing a more coordinated approach toward the protection of national interests. "Following the event, specific decisions were made on developing and bolstering bilateral partnership-based interaction," the KGB added.
