WASHINGTON, October 9. /TASS/. Tehran would have made a nuclear weapon, assuming it didn’t have one already, if the United States had not attacked its facilities, head of the US administration Donald Trump said.
"I think the attack was very important on Iran, because let's say that didn't happen, they'd probably, by now, have a nuclear weapon, numerous nuclear weapons," he said at a meeting of the presidential cabinet in the White House. According to the American leader, this would overshadow the achievement of agreements on a settlement in the Middle East. "Iran has to work on peace. Now they've informed us, and they've acknowledged that they're totally in favor of this deal. They think it's a great thing, so we appreciate that, and we'll work with Iran."
"We have major sanctions on Iran and lots of other things. We like to see them be able to rebuild their country too, but they can't have a nuclear weapon."
On the night of June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Tehran retaliated. The United States joined the conflict on June 22, hitting the Iranian nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow. The next day, Iran attacked the Al-Udeid American airbase in Qatar, the largest in the Middle East. After that, Trump said that Israel and Iran had agreed on a ceasefire that came into force on June 24.
Trump said on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas had signed agreements on the first stage of the peace plan.
