US violates international law by attacking Tehran's nuclear sites, says Iranian president

"These attacks were directed not only against Iran, but against all independent countries in the world," Masoud Pezeshkian stated

MINSK, August 20. /TASS/. The United States disregarded international law when it carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said during talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and an expanded circle of delegates.

"The US, in violation of all international rules, attacked Iran's nuclear facilities. They trampled on international law and all universally recognized norms. The Islamic Republic of Iran has never waged war against any [country]. But when we became the target of attacks, we were forced to respond. We understand that the collective West wants to dominate the [Middle East] region. These attacks were directed not only against Iran, but against all independent countries in the world," Pezeshkian stated.

Overnight into June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Less than 24 hours later, Tehran retaliated. Nine days after that, in the early hours of June 22, US jets targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, effectively entering the conflict. The following evening, Tehran carried out a missile strike on Al Udeid, the largest US military base in the region, located in Qatar. According to US officials, there were no casualties or significant damage. US President Donald Trump later announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete ceasefire. The truce took effect on June 24.
