Representatives of the Turkish parliament discussed in Moscow the prospects for expanding trade and economic ties, peace efforts in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, Chairman of the Turkish legislature’s Foreign Affairs Commission, Fuat Oktay, announced on the social network X.
"We discussed bilateral relations, regional and global events that directly impact our countries. We have confirmed our will to bring especially trade and economic relations to a higher level. We discussed the efforts to end the war in Ukraine and the principled position that our country has demonstrated from the very beginning. We stressed that our country will continue to resolutely support efforts to resolve the conflict through negotiations and diplomacy with both sides at the negotiating table," Oktay said.
He also noted that in Moscow, "we explored steps that can be taken to further develop bilateral relations in the fields of economy, trade, investment, energy, education and tourism in order to achieve the trade turnover target of $100 billion." At the same time, the chairman of the parliamentary committee called for "creating a more balanced structure of trade relations" between Turkey and Russia.
Oktay stressed "the importance of cooperation between the two countries in ending Israel's genocide in Palestine and its occupation activities in Syria." "We strongly support the two-state solution, guarantees of the territorial integrity and reconstruction of Syria, and the complete cleansing of our region from the terrorist threat," the Turkish parliamentarian added.
