WASHINGTON, March 20. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump’s course toward cooperating with Russia is beginning to "bear fruit," a US expert who asked not to be named told TASS, commenting on March 18 Trump’s call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The policy of engaging Russia on a broader diplomatic front with respect to issues beyond Ukraine is beginning to bear fruit in bilateral relations, as demonstrated by the agreement on a partial energy ceasefire," he said.
In his words, the phone call between the US and Russian leaders "call marks a substantive first step on what will be a long and winding road to a negotiated peace."
"The overall success of this negotiation track will depend on the ability of all the sides, including Ukraine, to settle on a viable, realistic roadmap to a lasting peace settlement," he added.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on March 19 that Moscow had informed Washington in detail of all the nuances of implementing Trump's idea of a 30-day truce in Ukraine. However, in his words, these topics are quite delicate and "are subject to a thorough study at the bilateral level and should hardly be the subject of public discussions."
