CAIRO, May 4. /TASS/. The indirect talks between Hamas and Israel that are taking place in Cairo have achieved no progress so far and will resume on May 5, the group’s spokesman said.
"Today's talks with mediators in Cairo did not bring any serious changes," the spokesman said, Al Hadath television reported. "There will be a new round tomorrow."
Al Hadath reported earlier on Saturday that Hamas agreed to release 33 hostages as part of the first phase of the Gaza settlement deal with Israel.
Egypt’s Sada al-Balad television reported that US and Israeli representatives attending the talks in the Egyptian capital believe that any potential agreement to set a temporary ceasefire and release hostages held in Gaza would be followed by more talks. Reaching a final agreement, "will require several more days of dialogue," the report said.
According to the television channel, "negotiators in Cairo have made progress on technical aspects of a potential agreement." But according to some participants in the talks, even if Hamas accepts the proposal that was presented to it earlier, time will be needed to agree on specific details, which should eventually lead to a truce. According to the report, "discussions could be protracted and difficult.".
