UK will maintain sanctions against Russia after conflict in Ukraine stops — minister

According to Nusrat Munir Ul-Ghani, the British government intends to prevent Russia from "upgrading military capability"

LONDON, December 11. /TASS/. The UK will keep sanctions against Russia in place after the end of the conflict in Ukraine to prevent Moscow from quickly upgrading its military capability, Minister of State for Industry and Economic Security Nusrat Munir Ul-Ghani announced.

"The sanctions will continue when the conflict comes to an end. It won't just stop the day the conflict stops," she said, speaking at the Policy Exchange think tank in London. According to her, the British government intends to prevent Russia from "upgrading military capability" immediately after the end of hostilities.

Since the beginning of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, London has blacklisted about 1,800 Russian individuals and legal entities and frozen their assets worth more than 18 billion pounds ($23 billion). Earlier on December 11, the Department for Business and Trade announced that the UK government will establish a special entity (Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation, OTSI), which will monitor private companies' compliance with sanctions against Russia.
