BEIRUT, February 7. /TASS/. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has offered his condolences to his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Assad, over the devastating earthquake, the press service of the Syrian leader said on Tuesday after their telephone call.
"President Raisi stressed that Iran will help Syria to cope with this trial, expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the Syrians and wished the soonest recovery to those injured," the press service said.
Raisi noted that "Iran sympathizes with the Syrian people and, based on the strategic relations linking the two friendly countries, will help the Syrian government to deal with the quake aftermath.
President Assad thanked the Iranian government and people for humanitarian relief and support for the Syrian authorities’ efforts to rescue people affected by the earthquake.
Some 45 tonnes of humanitarian aid were delievered to Damascus from Iran on Monday.
