Russian servicemen clear rubble in Syria's Latakia Governorate after quake

Medical and nursing teams of the special medical detachment are on duty at each location, the Russian Defense Ministry said

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Servicemen of the Russian troops in Syria continue to help to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in the country, they are removing the rubble in the Latakia Governorate, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"[Russian] detachments using special equipment are removing rubble in several populated areas of the Latakia Governorate. Medical and nursing teams of the special medical detachment are on duty at each location," the ministry said in a statement.

On Monday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu instructed the commander of the Russian group of troops in Syria, Andrey Serdyukov, to help deal with the aftermath of the earthquake. Ten joint detachments were formed from the group's servicemen, who began to remove rubble, search for victims and provide them with medical assistance in the most devastated areas. More than 300 Russian servicemen and 60 units of military and special equipment were involved in providing assistance.
