ASTANA, January 20. /TASS/. Kazakhstan’s first President Nursultan Nazarbaeyv has undergone heart surgery, which was successful, his spokesman Aidos Ukibay said on Friday.
"Nursultan Nazarbayev has undergone heart surgery. The operation was successful. He currently remains under medical supervision. The operation, led by renowned heart surgeon Yury Pya, took place at the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center," Ukibay wrote on Twitter.
Nazarbayev, 82, served as the first President of Kazakhstan in 1991-2019. In March 2019, he signed a decree stepping down as president. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev succeeded Nazarbayev as head of state.
