China urges NATO to end attempts to unleash another cold war

NATO has already messed up Europe, so it should abstain from attempts to mess up Asia and the rest of the world as well, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin also pointed out

BEIJING, June 23. /TASS/. Beijing has called on NATO to stop spreading false reports about China and refrain from attempts to unleash a new cold war, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a briefing on Thursday.

"We are calling on NATO to stop drawing ideological lines, spreading false reports or making provocative statements about China, and to end attempts to unleash a new cold war," Wang said.

NATO that he said was "a cold war product and the world’s largest military alliance led by the US" was the North Atlantic Treaty Organization originally, while it has so far "reached the Asian-Pacific region to show its force."

"These moves are very dangerous and would certainly provoke caution and resolute opposition from Asia-Pacific countries and the entire world," the Chinese diplomat added.

Wang also said that "NATO has already messed up Europe," so it should abstain from "attempts to mess up Asia and the rest of the world as well."

At a summit to be held in Madrid on June 28-30, NATO will agree a new strategic concept in which it would designate Russia as "the most significant and direct threat to our (NATO’s - TASS) security," the alliance’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced earlier. Also, the new concept will for the first time address China "and the challenges it poses to our interests, security and values.", Stoltenberg added.
