Russian official says West wants to cause crisis, worsen social conditions in Russia

An effective opposition to the unprecedented sanctions pressure will make it possible to perform a profound restructuring of the Russian economy, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev also noted

MOSCOW, June 2. /TASS/. Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said in an interview published on Thursday that the Russian Security Council is devising measures that would stall Western efforts to cause a full-on crisis in Russia that would worsen social conditions.

"Special emphasis is placed on the development of measures aimed at stalling Western attempts to provoke a full-scale economic crisis in Russia with a potential to exacerbate the social situation in the country," he said in the interview to Rossiyskaya Gazeta given to mark the council’s 30th anniversary.

Patrushev stated that an effective opposition to the unprecedented sanctions pressure will make it possible not only to cope with the economic aggression unleashed against Russia, but also to perform a profound restructuring of the Russian economy.

Strengthening Russia's economic sovereignty, he said, is one of the most important goals in the work of the Security Council. "As part of that, the challenges of improving the quality of life of Russian citizens, ensuring macroeconomic stability and balanced territorial development of the country are being addressed," the official said.

Patrushev stated that the emergence of new challenges and threats to national security poses fundamentally new tasks for the Security Council that require extraordinary, carefully considered solutions.
