Montenegro to get first batch of Sputnik V vaccine on February 17 — ministry

The country, with a population of about 600,000, has registered more than 69,000 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic

BELGRADE, February 17. /TASS/. The first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine will arrive to Montenegro from Serbia on Wednesday, February 17, Montenegrin Health Minister Jelena Borovinic Bojovic said.

"The first negotiations that brought us vaccine as a result were the negotiations with our friend and neighbor Serbia," she said, adding that another delivery of the Russian vaccine from Serbia was expected within the next few days.

Besides, Montenegro expects a Sputnik V delivery directly from Russia in the coming days. Apart from that, the country is to receive the vaccines produced by Sinopharm and Pfizer.

On Tuesday, Montenegro’s Public Health Institute detected seven cases of the UK strain of COVID-19. Prior to that, the government had to impose a curfew and restrict international travel as epidemiological situation in the country deteriorated sharply.

The country, with a population of about 600,000, has registered more than 69,000 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, 899 of them fatal. At present, the number of active cases stands at 8,591.
