Medvedchuk’s party to support Zelensky, if he strives for peace in Donbass

TASS, April 17. /TASS/. Chairman of the political council of Ukraine’s Opposition Platform - For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk said on Wednesday that his party will officially support the actions of presidential hopeful Vladimir Zelensky if he seeks to settle the conflict in the Donbass Region.

"[Sitting Ukrainian President Pyotr] Poroshenko doesn’t want peace. If Zelensky truly strives for peace and wants to restore the economic strength of Ukraine, our party will support his actions," Medvedchuk pointed out in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper.

Earlier, Zelensky said he is seeking to engage in direct negotiations with Russia with the participation of international partners to resolve the Donbass conflict and remove Medvedchuk from the negotiating process.

The first round of Ukraine’s presidential elections took place on March 31. Zelensky received 30.24% of the votes, while Poroshenko got 15.95%. The runoff is scheduled for April 21.
