ASTANA, July 20. /TASS/. Another suspect in the murder of Kazakhstan’s Olympic medalist in figure skating Denis Ten has been detained by police, Tengrinews.kz news web portal reported on Friday citing a source in the prosecutor general’s office in Almaty.
"The second suspect in the murder of Denis Ten, Arman Kudaibergenov, has been detained," the web portal said in a statement.
One of the suspects in the high-profile murder of Kazakh Olympic medalist Denis Ten was detained and taken to a pretrial detention facility late on Thursday night.
The Kazinform news agency reported earlier on Friday citing Almaty Prosecutor Beirik Zhuirektayev that the suspect had already admitted his guilt. The detainee was identified as Nuraly Kiyasov, born in 1994, from the southern Zhambyl Region.
Ten, the bronze medalist of the 2018 Sochi Olympics, died in a hospital in Almaty on Thursday afternoon after he had been assaulted by two unidentified suspects and sustained a knife stab.
According to Almaty’s police department, he spotted two unknown suspects trying to dismount and steal side-mirrors of his car at about midday local time (9:00 GMT). As a result of the following brawl with the suspects, the 25-year-old figure skater was stabbed and taken to a hospital, where he died three hours later despite enormous efforts of the medical staff to save his life.
Besides winning the Olympic bronze at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia’s Sochi, Denis Ten also grabbed the Figure Skating World Championship’s silver and bronze in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
