Team England breezes past stubborn Iran 6-2 at 2022 FIFA World Cup match

Both goals for the Iranian national football team were scored by its striker Mehdi Taremi

DOHA, November 21. /TASS/. The national football team of England blazed past Iran 6-2 in the group stage match between the two countries at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Monday.

The goals for England at the Khalifa International Stadium came from Jude Bellingham (35th minute of the game), Bukayo Saka (43rd and 62nd minutes of the match), Raheem Sterling (in extra time of the 45-minute first half), Marcus Rashford (71st minute of the match) and Jack Grealish (in the 90th minute).

Both goals for the Iranian national football team were scored by its striker Mehdi Taremi (65th minute and in extra time).

England and Iran are now scheduled to play their next games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Group B against the squads from the United States and Wales respectively in the next round of the group stage on November 25.

The national teams of England and Iran are sharing Group B along national squads including the United States and Wales, who are set to set play against each other later in the day.

US-based political daily Politico reported last week that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken planned to be attending the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. According to previous reports, Blinken was set to attend a match of the quadrennial global football championship on November 21 between the national teams of the United States and Wales.

Qatar is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup between November 20 and December 18 at eight stadiums in five cities across the country. The eight stadiums at the issue are Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Lusail Iconic Stadium, Stadium 974, Education City Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium.

The championship kicked off on Sunday with a picturesque ceremony and the subsequent opening match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador, which ended 2-0 in favor of Ecuador.

The previous FIFA World Cup was hosted by Russia in 2018. In the final match that year France marched to defeat Croatia 4-2 to win the much-coveted World Cup Trophy.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup championship took place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across Russia, namely in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara.
