Roscosmos puts Glonass-K satellite in service in Russian orbital cluster after tests

Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin also noted that Russia has begun deploying the next-generation Glonass orbital cluster

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. The Glonass-K No. 705 satellite launched in October 2020 was put in service in the Russian orbital constellation, Head of Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said on Thursday.

"As reported by the Glonass system control center, the Glonass-K No. 705 satellite (11th operating point) delivered into orbit on October 25, 2020, was put in service in the orbital cluster at 14:30 Moscow time on April 28, 2022, and is operating according to its designation," the Roscosmos chief wrote on his Telegram channel.

Russia has begun deploying the next-generation Glonass orbital cluster, Rogozin said.

Currently, Russia’s Glonass orbital cluster comprises 25 satellites, with 23 of them operating according to their designation and two others temporarily undergoing maintenance. As many as 24 operational Glonass satellites are required for global coverage. Glonass satellites of various generations are produced by the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems Company.
