SCO has great potential to address Eurasian issues through dialogue — Russian top diplomat

According to Sergey Lavrov, the SCO’s position is unique because its mandate fully encompasses security, social, transport, trade, and economic initiatives

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia sees significant potential for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to address challenges in Eurasia through dialogue and joint projects, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting with SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

"We certainly see very strong potential in the organization you lead when it comes to addressing Eurasia’s problems through positivity, dialogue, and constructive projects in the economic dimension and in logistics - what we call the Greater Eurasian Partnership - and, of course, in strengthening the collective security of all countries in the region," the top diplomat noted.

According to Lavrov, the SCO’s position is unique because its mandate fully encompasses security, social, transport, trade, and economic initiatives.

"We look forward to hearing your assessments and the [SCO] Secretariat’s vision for further progress," the Russian foreign minister added, addressing the SCO secretary general.
