Russia, Thailand seek post-pandemic development of tourism — senator

It is recalled that this year marks the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Russia

BANGKOK, October 28. /TASS/. Russia and Thailand are interested in the post-pandemic development of the tourist industry, the Federation Council’s First Deputy Speaker Andrey Yatskin said on Friday following the 30th session of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).

"Obviously, our Thai counterparts and we are interested in the post-pandemic development of the two countries," he said, recalling the major flow of Russian tourists to Thailand before the coronavirus pandemic.

"At the same time, Russia is opening up its opportunities and showing that it also has tourist destinations that are of great interest to Thai visitors."

"This is true not only of Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also of Baikal and Altai, which are quite remarkable destinations, too," Yatskin said.

He recalled that this year marks the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Russia.

"At a bilateral meeting [with the Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Thailand Chuan Leekpai] I confirmed that Russia has not yet completed the celebration of these jubilee events and a tourist route is opening in Petergof," continued Yatskin. "It is the very same route that Russia’s Emperor Nicholas II and King Rama V, of Thailand used once. This route, of course, will arouse certain interest among Thai tourists," he said.

In 2022, as part of the celebrations devoted to the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Russia, a number of bilateral agreements are to be signed in various fields, including trade, as well as in the humanitarian, scientific and technical fields. In addition, various cultural events and exhibitions are held.
