Russia would never be ‘brushed aside’ from global geopolitical map, says Putin

Russian President Putin took part in a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday

MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. In response to a proposal to build up relations with the West Russia received an answer in the form of ensuing pressure, but it is impossible to ‘brush aside’ Russia from the global geopolitical map, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

"We have encountered a constantly increased pressure exerted upon us as well as the eruption of hotbeds near our borders [in response to Russia’s proposal to mend ties with the West]," the president told a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club. "What was the initial purpose of this pressure? Was it to get some training practice?"

"The main aim was to make Russia vulnerable turning it into a tool for achieving personal geopolitical targets," Putin said. "This is a universal rule to speak frankly about it."

Russian President Putin took part in a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday. The session’s topic was ‘A Post-Hegemonic World: Justice and Security For Everyone.’

Since the establishment of the Valdai Club in 2004, Putin has been traditionally meeting with its participants. The first conference was held in Veliky Novgorod near Lake Valdai, which gave its name to it. The club has been holding its sessions in Sochi since 2014, but for 2020, when it was held in Moscow due to the pandemic restrictions and the president addressed it online. This year’s conference will also be held in Moscow.
