MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov could not say whether a decision to establish a new Russian federal district could be made.
"I cannot say now what decisions will be taken by the head of state," Peskov said, when asked by a TASS reporter whether the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics as well as the Kherson Region and the Zaporozhye Region could be integrated into a new federal district.
The new Russian regions are currently being integrated into the country’s legislative and economic fields, he said. "This will take some time, and a configuration will begin to take shape with time," the presidential spokesman added. He said, "Maybe yes, maybe no," when asked if any configuration could emerge before the end of this year.
Earlier this month, President Vladimir Putin signed degrees to admit the two Donbass republics as well as the Kherson and the Zaporozhye Regions to Russia. Before that, the four regions had held referendums where the majority of residents voted to join Russia.
