According to the agency, it will take some time to complete all preparations, including those related to necessary systems and equipment, before reactor operations can resume

VIENNA, October 5. /TASS/. Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant staff notified the International Atomic Energy Agency experts about its intention to restart one for six reactors that is currently in cold shutdown state.

"Ukrainian operating staff informed IAEA experts present at the ZNPP that preparations are under way to start unit 5 at reduced power to produce steam and heat for the needs of the plant," the agency said in a statement, published on its website Wednesday.

According to the agency, "it will take some time to complete all preparations, including those related to necessary systems and equipment, before reactor operations can resume."

The Zaporozhye NPP, located in the city of Energodar, is currently controlled by Russian forces. Its territory has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian strikes. In early September, the power plant was visited by the IAEA mission led by Director General Rafael Grossi. Two IAEA employees remain at the station as observers. Later, the agency published a report, in which it called to establish a protection zone around the plant in order to prevent emergencies caused by hostilities.
