Russia reiterates security guarantees to UN in probe into Yelenovka attack

It is noted that more than two months have passed, but the ICRC has failed to arrive for some reason

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Russia can guarantee the safety of UN experts in a probe into the recent attacks against Ukrainian servicemen in Yelenovka, a senior Russian diplomat said on Wednesday.

"We lodged a request or invited UN and Red Cross officials a day after the incident," Sergey Vershinin, a Russian deputy foreign minister, said at a news conference. "More than two months have passed, but the ICRC has failed to arrive for some reason, and the UN is still not here because of security concerns on the part of those who may arrive, but Russia is able to guarantee their security," he said

The Russian diplomat criticized the arguments as somewhat bogus. "There is something behind it, seemingly the reluctance to know the truth. We are disappointed with how the UN has reacted to our calls for a prompt and clear investigation," Vershinin concluded.
