US actions totally inconsistent on international issues, including JCPOA — Lavrov

According to the Russian foreign minister, attempts to put "a false reputation ahead of essence" are very risky

TEHRAN, June 23. /TASS/. Washington is acting quite inconsistently on almost any international issue, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday at a press conference following talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran.

"The United States is acting inconsistently not only with regard to the JCPOA, but practically with regard to any other issue that is on the international agenda. It is guided by some momentary considerations, looking back at what problems that arise inside the US itself and how they can try to distract voters from these domestic problems," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

"What the US is doing at the talks on the JCPOA resumption is an example of such actions. They show off their absolutely indisputable leadership role on any issue of the international agenda," Lavrov pointed out.

According to Lavrov, attempts to put "a false reputation ahead of essence" are very risky. He recalled how the US tried a year ago to blame Russia for the fact that the agreement to fully resume the JCPOA was delayed. "That was, to put it mildly, untrue. And everybody understands that very well. A year ago, Russia, like all parties to the agreement, reiterated our willingness to resume it in full; since then, the US has been single-handedly stalling the agreement," he pointed out.

"Here, we have once again confirmed to our Iranian friends that we will fully support their position on the need to resume the JCPOA in full, without any exceptions, without any unacceptable add-ons. Of course, this would require removing all illegal sanctions," Lavrov stressed.
