Almost no room left for dialog with EU, says Russian envoy

At the same time, it is noted that members of Russia’s diplomatic mission do have "occasional contacts" with European officials

MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. There is almost no room left for dialog with the European Union, Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said on Wednesday.

"In 2016, when then European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker came here [to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum], he had a long discussion with our president and addressed a plenary meeting," Chizhov told Rossiya-24 channel.

"That was after 2014, when our biannual summit was put on hold", "yet there was still room for dialog", the diplomat said. "Now it is practically non-existent."

Members of Russia’s diplomatic mission do have "occasional contacts" with European officials, said Chizhov, adding that European colleagues "are apparently afraid of maintaining dialog with us."
