Russia says its air defense destroyed drone, three Tochka-U missiles over Snake Island

Air defenses also destroyed five Ukrainian drones near Glubokoye and Liptsy in the Kharkov Region and near Alexandrovka and Donetsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov on Thursday said Russian air defense destroyed a drone and three Tochka-U missiles over the Snake Island over the past day.

"An unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down and three Ukrainian Tochka-U ballistic missiles were intercepted over the Snake Island," he said.

Air defenses also destroyed five Ukrainian drones near Glubokoye and Liptsy in the Kharkov Region and near Alexandrovka and Donetsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic, he said. In addition, Konashenkov said 10 Smerch MLRS projectiles were destroyed near Polevoye in the DPR.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on May 9 that the Ukrainian General Staff, on orders from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, planned, with a direct involvement of advisors from the US and UK, a major provocation to capture the Snake Island, which was foiled by the Russian armed forces. As a result, Ukraine lost four aircraft: three Su-24 and one Su-27 and 10 helicopters and about 30 drones. At sea, three Ukrainian Centaur-class armored assault craft carrying Ukraine’s Navy personnel were destroyed. More than 50 Ukrainian saboteurs were destroyed at sea and on the shore.
