Russia’s law enforcement jointly with the People’s Militia directorates of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics is undertaking measures to establish the identity of the individuals involved in committing these crimes

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. Russia’s Investigative Committee opened criminal cases on the abuse and torture of Russian servicemen in Ukraine, the committee’s press service told TASS on Wednesday.

"The Investigative Committee’s military investigative bodies opened criminal cases against unidentified individuals participating in the armed conflict on the Ukrainian side for elements of a crime under Part 2, Article 105 (the murder of two or more people over their professional activity committed due to hatred or animosity with particular cruelty as well as with the aim to conceal another crime) and under Part 1, Article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code (the use of forbidden means and methods of warfare," the Investigative Committee noted.

The agency said that following the end of military action, four bodies of Russian servicemen were found with the signs of abuse and torture. Forensics showed that they sustained injuries while being alive. "These facts indicate that the Ukrainian side violated the August 12, 1949 Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war," the Investigative Committee reported.
