No plans to introduce martial law in Russia — Putin

The President said that martial law was normally introduced in a country in the event of external aggression, including in specific areas of hostilities and there is no such situation now

KHIMKI /Moscow Region/, March 5. /TASS/. There are no plans to introduce martial law or any special situation in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday.

Putin said that martial law is normally introduced in a country in the event of external aggression, including in specific areas of hostilities.

"We don’t have such a situation. I hope we won’t have," he said at a meeting with female crew members of Russian airlines. "As for a special situation, it’s also introduced by a decree in the event of some large-scale internal threats."

"There is also an emergency situation regime. It, as a rule, is introduced in case of man-made disasters, natural calamities," Putin went on to say. "Thank God, there is no such thing either. We do not plan to introduce any special situation on the territory of the Russian Federation."

He also said efforts are being made to destabilize the situation in the country.

"Efforts are being made to destabilize the society," Putin said.
