Russia's top diplomat slams US 'sanctions' against Maduro’s supporters as unlawful

Lavrov pointed out that the move is yet another evidence of American diplomacy "quickly losing sense and ability to use diplomatic instruments"

ABU-DHABI, March 6. /TASS/. Washington’s statements that sanctions might be imposed on all the supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro are unlawful, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"[We] have neither time nor willingness, to put it frankly, to follow all the arrogant and unlawful remarks of Washington," he said. "It is another evidence that the American diplomacy is quickly losing the sense and its ability to use diplomatic instruments and is switching to the language that has never been characteristic for diplomacy."

Lavrov hopes that the US example "will not be contagious for others."

Earlier in the day, White House national security adviser John Bolton warned foreign financial institutions that they would face sanctions for transactions that benefit Maduro and his government.
