Kremlin unaware of any talks concerning sale of Venezuelan gold to Russia

The Kremlin spokesman has no information on the matter

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov does not have any information concerning Venezuela’s intention to sell gold to Russia.

"I am unaware of any talks concerning this, I do not have any information," the spokesman told reporters.

Peskov added that in any case, the decision to sell gold is Venezuela’s sovereign right, which is why "there is nothing to comment on". The Russian presidential spokesman also denied Russia’s role as a mediator between Venezuela and third countries in the sale of gold. "No, neither the Kremlin, nor the [Russian] government have any connection to this," he said.

It was reported earlier that Venezuela’s Central Bank is planning to deliver 15 tonnes of gold to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the near future, the Reuters agency informed on Thursday, citing an official source. According to the source, Venezuela already sold three tonnes of gold from its reserves on January 26.
